The Mozart Effect – What Is It?
How would you like to be able to increase your brain power in as little as six minutes?
Sounds too good to be true right?
It does, however it can be done due to the “Mozart Effect”.
What is the Mozart Effect?
Before I get into that let me first tell you who Mozart is.
Yes Mozart is a person!
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who is most commonly known just by his last name Mozart, is one of the greatest composers to have ever walked this earth. He is a classical music artist who is no longer alive. Many people have enjoyed his music for years. Those who are big fans of classical Music Love his work and how it invigorates, soothes and inspires them.
Ok, so what is the Mozart Effect then?
Well some researches have done studies that show that listening to Mozart’s music brings much More Than just sheer enjoyment to the listener. Actually they have shown that listening to Mozart can for a while increase your spatio-temporal reasoning. If you have no idea what spatio-temporal reasoning is well it’s the performance of mental tasks.
When people say “Mozart Effect” they are referring too much more than the increase in performance of mental tasks. They are also referring to the many other theories such as if a young child listens to Mozart then they can end up with more mental development then other children and that listening to Mozart can make you smarter.
Some people believe in this effect so much that they have spent their time and money on producing and trademarking products based on it. These people also believe that listening to his music has the ability to vastly affect the listener’s life in a positive way. They proclaim that listening to his music is the key to overall happiness.
The whole Mozart Effect is very interesting to me and I think it should be interesting to you as well. Why? Well because say if you listened to it before an exam you could end up doing much better on the exam. You could also listen to it before you go and play the piano, which could make you play it much better.
It could also have a positive impact on your piano skills in more than one way. You should then combine your piano studies with listening to music by Mozart to get a rounded music education. Three ways it can help musically are:
- Studying – When You Are going to practise the piano you could sit down and listen to some Mozart before hand and the increase in your mental power may give you that extra boost you need to make the most out of your practise session. Be sure to get to the instrument quick though as it only lasts for 10 – 15 minutes.
- Writing – Listening to Mozart or any classical music may provide you with that emotional kick that you need to sit down and craft your own masterpiece.
- Mental Development – This isn’t important if you are an adult player but if you teach kids then getting them to listen to Mozart can increase their mental development. This means that they may be able to pick up musical concepts much easier and be a much better player down the line. It can also help them with none musical feats such as academia and their career.
Purchase some Mozart then and give it a listen and see if it helps you with the activities in your life.
